Before entering the most important match of his career, Bridges, the current IBF world bantamweight champion, turned his attention to former MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.
Rousey, 36, became famous decades ago. The female fighter was the UFC women’s bantamweight champion for 3 years, with 12 consecutive wins. The female fighter, known as the “UFC Queen”, ended her MMA career after losing 2 consecutive matches to Holly Holm (2015) and Amanda Nunes (2016).
Saying goodbye to mixed martial arts, Rousey switched to wrestling. The American female fighter competed in WWE (2014-2017), Raw (2018-2019) and came to SmackDown from January 29, 2022. On October 11, 2023, the former “Queen” of martial arts announced her retirement.
Rousey’s talent and reputation attracted Bridges, the Australian boxer wanted to compete with a martial arts legend and this was a good opportunity to promote his image.
On her personal page, Bridges posted a photo collage of her and Rousey and wrote: “I will compete with Ronda Rousey in a Boxing match, what do you think? What are your predictions?”.
Viewers have had some not-so-positive comments. One person wrote: “This match is pointless, she (Rousey) isn’t really good with her bare hands.”
Another wrote: “I want the two to fight under MMA rules, it’s fairer for Rousey.”
A third person said: “I’d rather see a sexy photo war between them.”
